Town of Arena – Regular Meeting

September 12, 2005

 

PRESENT:  Bob Murphy, Dave Lucey, Bill Gauger, Laurie Ziebarth, Minnie Gauger,  Dave Meudt, Louis Carpenter, Ron Berg, Phil Haas, John Crook, Eddie Wheeler, Ken Frame, Steve Johnson, Vince White, Terry Carney, Tom Foster, 5 others

 

The meeting was called to order.  All board members were present.  Gauger moved to approve the minutes of the August 8, 2005 meeting as corrected, #2 - remove the phrase “for a salvage yard” and clarify 100 vehicles includes 30 boats and 70 vehicles, Lucey seconded, motion passed.  Lucey moved to approve payment of the bills presented, Gauger seconded, motion carried. 

 

Items recommended from the Plan Commission:

1.  Lucey moved to approve conditional uses including boat and boat motor sales and storage/repair, outside storage of wrecked and junked vehicles and equipment (vehicle limit 30 boats and 70 vehicles), refrigerated storage facility; screened by 8 foot solid fence or pines, with unlicensed vehicles behind the fence for MaryLee Anding, Murphy seconded, motion passed with Gauger voting in opposition.

2.  Lucey moved to approve a conditional use for 6 animal units for Doug Anderson, Gauger seconded, motion carried.

3.  Lucey moved to approve a building permit for Fred Hankel, Jr off Helena Road, Gauger seconded, motion passed.

4.  Gauger moved to approve a conditional use for 18 animal units for Wayne Schutte, contingent upon receiving signatures from 3 landowners stating they will take animal waste, Lucey seconded, motion carried.

 

Lucey moved to approve a Temporary Class “B” License for the sale of Fermented Malt Beverages for the Sandbar Sandbaggers Horseshoe Club at 5375 Blue Ridge Road Sept 17-Sept 18, 2005, Gauger seconded, motion passed.  Lucey moved to approve operator’s licenses for Phillip Haas, John Crook, Eddie Wheeler, Kenneth Frame for this event, Gauger seconded, motion passed.  Gauger moved to sign a Memo of Understanding between Iowa County and the Town of Arena for the Statewide Voter Registration System, Lucey seconded, motion carried.  Gauger moved to send a letter to Mark Hottmann thanking him for his service on the Plan Commission, Lucey seconded, motion passed.  Mail was read. 

 

Steve Johnson questioned the practice of collecting a fee for driveways that don’t access public roads.  The Board stated even though the driveway might be joint with other users, it accesses a public road.  Terry Carney questioned what the $1000 Town of Arena building permit fee covers as she believes the fee is not fair and reasonable and does not provide a service.  Tom Foster was present to discuss closing off Foster Road before the buildings to stop partying in the area and damage to his buildings.  Foster will look into petitioning the township to abandon the road before his buildings.  Lucey moved to approve an extension allowing the fence between Leslie/Wilkinson to be completed by November 15, 2005, Murphy seconded, motion passed.  Preliminary work was done on the budget.  Gauger moved to adjourn, Lucey seconded, motion passed.
