Town of Arena – Regular Meeting

December 12, 2005

 

PRESENT:  Bob Murphy, Dave Lucey, Bill Gauger, Laurie Ziebarth, Minnie Gauger, Dave Meudt, Dick Lockman, Louis Carpenter, MaryLee Anding, John Halverson, Dee Swenson, 25 others

 

The meeting was called to order.  All board members were present.  Lucey moved to approve the minutes of the November 14, 2005 meeting, Gauger seconded, motion passed.  Lucey moved to approve payment of the bills presented on 12/12/05, Gauger seconded, motion carried. 

 

Murphy read a letter from MaryLee Anding requesting an extension on the January 1, 2006 deadline for having the property at their shop in compliance with county zoning.  Lucey moved to approve the zoning extension as requested until June 1, 2006, Murphy seconded, motion passed with Gauger abstaining.  Gauger moved to rezone 13 acres at the Bit-O-Green trailer park to R3 for Traci Halverson, Lucey seconded, motion passed.  Lucey moved to approve a driveway permit for Rick Hanson, Gauger seconded, motion carried.  Gauger moved to approve rezoning on 20.35 acres to AR1 for Jack Tredinnick, Lucey seconded, motion passed.

 

Discussion followed on the amount of property to be abandoned at the end of Foster Road and if a cul-de-sac was needed.  Halverson will create a legal description of the property and present it to the town.  Dee Swenson informed the Town Board that she would like to resign from the Plan Commission and would recommend Terry Denruiter to take her place.  Gauger moved to accept Dee's resignation and to appoint Terry Denruiter in her place until April 2006, Lucey seconded, motion passed. 

 

Gauger moved to accept Amendatory Ordinance No. 05-A3 to the Town of Arena Comprehensive Plan, Lucey seconded, noting he did not agree with the addition exception under Farm Preservation, motion carried.  The group discussed the petition for a referendum regarding the density standard.  The town board prefers to send out a survey to township taxpayers rather than hold a referendum.  The survey will be planned for February or March of 2006. 

 

Lucey moved to enter into a 2006 Animal Impound Agreement with the Iowa County Humane Society giving a contribution of $250, Gauger seconded, motion carried.  Gauger moved to enter closed session, Lucey seconded, motion passed with the supervisors and chairman present.  Gauger moved to return to open session, Lucey seconded, motion passed.  Gauger moved to increase patrolmen wages for Dick Lockman by $.50/hour and for Dave Meudt by $1.00/hour starting January 1, 2006. 

 

Gauger moved to adjourn, Lucey seconded, motion passed.
