ARENA PLAN COMMISSION

July 3, 2006

 

PRESENT:  Cheryl Schmidt, John Wright, Wayne Schutte, Terry Denruiter, Mark Hottmann, Bill Gauger, Dave Lucey

OTHERS:  Laurie Ziebarth, John Halverson, Traci Halverson, Dave Saulka,  Larry Price, Dan Hartung, Ingmar Nelson, Bill Gardner, 8 others

 

The meeting was called to order.  Wright moved to approve the minutes of the June 5, 2006 meeting, Schutte seconded, motion passed. 

 

1.  Dave Saulka is selling 18 acres to an adjoining land owner to the north and keeping 10 acres around his home.  The total acreage (28.14 acres) is zoned AR1.  He would like to rezone the 18 acres to Ag from AR1 and keep the 10 acres as AR1.  It was noted there will be no building site on the 18 acre parcel.  Schutte moved to approve the rezoning on the 18 acre parcel from AR1 to Ag, Schmidt seconded, motion passed.

 

2.  Traci Halverson would like to put a driveway and new home on a 115 acre parcel off Knight Hollow Road.  Hottmann moved to approve the driveway permit, Denruiter seconded, motion passed.

 

3.  Larry Price and Dan Hartung were present to answer any questions about their proposed ethanol plant.  The Commission would like to get public input into the matter.  Wright moved to advise the Town Board to do a mailing or whatever they see fit to notify residents about a public meeting about the proposed ethanol plant (tentatively Tuesday, July 25), Denruiter seconded, motion passed. 

 

Public input was received regarding the ethanol plant.  Ingmar Nelson presented information regarding potential dangers from ethanol plants and commented on traffic concerns and heavy business in the township.  Bill Gardner, from the railway, stated more train traffic is to be expected on the rail through Arena due to the growing need without the ethanol plant. 

 

            The next meeting will be held Monday, August 7, 2006 at 7:00pm at the Town Hall.  Hottmann moved to adjourn, Schutte seconded, motion passed.
