ARENA PLAN COMMISSION

August 7, 2006

PRESENT:  John Wright, Cheryl Schmidt, Wayne Schutte, Terry Denruiter, Rod Anding, Mark Hottmann, Bob Murphy, Bill Gauger, Dave Lucey

OTHERS:  Laurie Ziebarth, Ingmar & Kim Nelson, Dick & Mary Lockman, John Halverson, Vern & Evy Halverson, Traci Halverson, Matt Forseth

The meeting was called to order.  Schutte moved to approve the minutes of the July 3, 2006 and August 3, 2006 meetings, Denruiter seconded, motion passed.

1.  Traci Halverson would like to get a building permit for a 115 acre parcel off Knight Hollow Road.  The driveway will be about 1500 feet long.  There are no buildings on the acreage currently.  Hottmann moved to approve a building permit for Traci Halverson pending driveway approval, Schmidt seconded, motion carried.

2.  Matt Forseth, present for Tom Forseth, would like to remove the trailer home on the farm and put in a shed with a small farm office, washer/dryer and kitchen area.  It was noted the shed can not be used as a residence.  A permit will be needed from the county for the shed.

3.  Ingmar Nelson presented a proposal for the 230 acres he owns, including island acreage.  He would like to get 5 building sites and place the homes on about 13 acres out of the floodplain.  Three or more contiguous parcels constitute a subdivision according to county rules and subdivisions are not allowed in the township.  It was noted there may be a concern about getting driveways in the floodplain area.

Nelson presented a petition requesting the Town of Arena remove the B4 zoning ordinance designation from the township.  The Commission stated they would not want to put any limitations on zoning other than what is already in the Comprehensive Plan.  Since the Town of Arena adopted the Iowa County Zoning Ordinance, B4 is allowed, but any permitted uses would need to be approved at both the township and county level.

The next meeting will be held Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at 7:00pm at the Town Hall.  Schutte moved to adjourn, Hottmann seconded, motion passed.
