Town of Arena – Regular Meeting

January 14, 2008

 

 

PRESENT:  Bob Murphy, Bill Gauger, Dave Lucey, KayDee Maxwell, Minnie Gauger, Louis Carpenter, Dick Lockman, Mary Lockman, David Meudt, Terry Denruiter, Ingmar Nelson

 

The meeting was called to order.  Gauger moved to approve the minutes of the December 10, 2007 meeting. Denruiter seconded, motion passed.  Gauger moved to pay the bills presented. Denruiter seconded, motion carried.

 

Rand Schott & Robert & Linda Gapko - Gauger motioned to approve the rezone of 20 acres from A1 to AR1. Denruiter seconded, motion approved.

 

Bob Hines - Terry Denruiter motioned to approve the land division of 114 acres and 2 building sites. Gauger seconded, motion passed.

 

John Rasmussen, Spring Valley Inn - At the county meeting in February they will discuss the length of time an owner of a condo can live in the condo. John Rasmussen said no more than 30 days a year.

 

Tracy Halverson - Ordinance for Personal Property taxes - The board may have to have a special meeting to discuss the conditions of the ordinance. Tracy gave the board some information to review. If the personal property taxes are taken off of the tax roll then the mill rate for the town will go up some.

 

Bob Murphy - TRIPP funds - our project, Amacher Hollow, has been submitted.  We will find out in April if the funds are approved.

 

Evy Halverson - Gauger motioned to approve the driveway permit for Commercial Lot 1 on Hwy 14 for Evy Halverson. Denruiter seconded, motion passed.

 

Board of Audit - The board approves the audit for 2007 that was completed by Minnie Gauger and KayDee Maxwell. Terry Denruiter motioned to approve the audit. Lucey seconded, motion passed. Bill Gauger abstained from voting due to conflict.

 

Lucey asked the patrolmen, "Can we use more sand?" Dave can with his truck. Use more sand on the flat and save the chips for the hills. The town is going to order more sand and Dave is to use more in his truck.

 

Our attorney asked Dave Lucey to sit down and talk with Steve Sawle. Steve Sawle has not called Dave back yet. Our attorney said a decision will be made very shortly regarding this matter.

Dave Lucey went to a Tower Sitings meeting - Telecommunications have two sites in mind for Arena Township. They will be along the Hwy 14 corridor.


The town needs to review the salaries for the Town Board every year. Arena's salaries are about 25% lower than the state wide average. Gauger motioned to leave the salaries as are. Denruiter seconded, motion passed.

 

Lucey motioned to approve the 2008 Town & Country Sanitation contract. Denruiter seconded, motion passed.
